What to Expect
Being in a discipleship group means you're not doing this alone. Your group experience will typically include:
- Shared curriculum — everyone in the group works through the same course or reading plan. This creates a common foundation for discussion.
- Paced sessions — your leader sets the schedule for when each session should be completed. This keeps everyone moving together.
- Discussion — whether in person, online, or both, your group will discuss what you're learning. Come prepared by completing your session work beforehand.
Sharing Responses with Leaders
In facilitated courses, your workbook responses — especially reflection questions — are visible to your group leader. This serves several purposes:
- Leaders can see who has completed their work
- Your reflections provide discussion starting points for group meetings
- Leaders can offer personalized encouragement or follow-up
- It creates accountability to actually engage with the material
Fill-in-the-blank answers and comprehension check scores are also tracked, but the open-ended reflections are where the richest conversations begin.
Keeping Up with the Group
Try to complete each session before your group meets to discuss it. If you fall behind:
- Communicate with your leader — they'd rather know than wonder
- You can still catch up on missed sessions at your own pace
- Don't skip group meetings just because you haven't finished — you'll still benefit from the discussion
Getting the Most from Group
- Do the work before the meeting — preparation makes discussion richer
- Ask questions when something doesn't make sense
- Share honestly in your reflections — vulnerability fosters real growth
- Pray for your group members between meetings
